Brownell Yacht Stands
Today, many shipyards, marinas and boat clubs choose to use only Brownell yacht stands, as they offer safe, secure, and more flexible handling of boats on land. The solid construction and high quality of the stands ensures many years of service.
Brownell yacht stands are available in eight different sizes from 24" – 200" in height and are designed to be placed under the angled hulls of yachts.

Yacht stands
The solid construction and high quality ensures many years of service, and the generous adjustability allows you to quickly adjust the stands to most hull shapes and types of boats. Storing the boat is easy, since the stand offers variable vertical adjustment and is easily adapted to all types of ground. Brownell yacht stands are lightweight and have a simple design with few parts, making them easy to work with. The stands are easily adjusted according to the height indicators using a threaded rod and wing nut. The shape of the threads allows for easy hand adjustment of the wing nut. The stands are secured with a safety chain that is passed athwartship between the stands. During pre-season boat preparation, it is easy to access the hull since the stands are movable. There is no need to run for the boat-launching crane. When the boat has been launched, the stands are easily stacked out of the way. This will give you a clean and tidy shipyard or marina, with more room for parking.

How do I choose the correct type of sailboat stand?
By adding the draft of the boat to the height of the blocking pile, and then subtracting approximately 25 centimetres (about 10 inches) you can determine what Brownell yacht stand to use. Try to leave room for adjusting the height of the stand, which can be achieved by choosing your boat stand strategically and adjusting your keel blocking.
Use a minimum of 6 yacht stands with sailboats. Boat covers are getting larger and many choose to tie them to the manrope. Pulling the boat out of the water with the mast left stepped is becoming increasingly popular. These factors can contribute to increased strain on the boat by winds during winter storms, and extra precautions should be taken. If the sailboat mast is left stepped, extra yacht stands should be used. If the boat is heavy at the bow or stern, an extra stand may be placed at the bow or stern to relieve the pressure. V-top yacht stands are suitable for the stem or stern.
Recommendations
- <30 feet: 6 stands
- 30-40 feet: 6-8 stands
- 40-55 feet: 8-10 stands
- >55 feet: 10 or more
Keel blocking and accessories
The boat should always rest on a minimum of two piles of hard blocks. The weight of the boat should be supported by keel blocking, not by the stands. When blocking the keel of your sailboat, we suggest two blocks measuring 7.5x15x100 centimetres. These may be purchased at your local timberyard.
