A Varis Engineering floating pontoon

Floating pontoons

The main frame is a fully welded steel fabrication with 180 x 75 PFC side members with twin 70 x 70 x 5 SHS central torsional members and 160 x 60 x 5 RHS cross members. All steelwork is galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461:1999 after manufacture.

Stringers are bolted to the frame to support the deck and floats and these can either be treated larch, hardwood or earthwood depending on the type of decking.

The fenders are either pressure treated larch, hardwood or ā€˜D’ section rubber bolted to the main members.

Mooring walkway fingers

Mooring walkway fingers are 1 metre wide with 2 metre lead in and radiused ends. They feature 6 no mooring cleats. They can be PVC or Docksafe fendered and are available with timber, earthwood, GRP or concrete decks. All are designed for a live load of 1.2 – 2Kn/m2.

Sizes

  • 6 metres long x 1 metre wide
  • 8 metres long x 1 metre wide
  • 10 metres long x 1 metre wide
  • 12 metres long x 1 metre wide

Pontoons and fingers can be fitted with the following surfaces:

  • Celcure treated Swedish redwood.
  • Hardwood
  • Concrete
  • GRP
  • Earthwood.

Floats

Floats are rotationally moulded from UV stabilised medium density polyethylene. This produces a one piece shell which can be from 5mm – 10mm thick which is virtually indestructible and resistant to oil and chemicals. The floats are filled with polystyrene beads which are steam injected to form a solid mass. The floats are bolted through stainless steel sleeves to the underside of the pontoon frame.
