RotoDock Floating Pontoon Disabled Access Installations
February 2011: A disabled hoist installed at Upton Warren Outdoor Education Centre

After using their pontoon system for the last few years Upton Warren Outdoor Education Centre wanted to increase the access to the pontoons by adding a disabled hoist and extending the main pontoon.
Because of the modular system of the pontoons the new parts were easily added in just an hour or so. The rigid surface of the pontoon and the addition of the Hereford Hoist means that the centre is now able to allow wheel chair users to access the water and all the fun that that entails.
Phil Ascough, the Head of the centre said βThe new layout is great, a huge improvement on our previous disabled facilities.β

A floating pontoon for Midland Canoe Club

Midland Canoe Club at Darley Abbey, Derby on the river Derwent invested in a floating pontoon β photos taken recently after its installation are above. The pontoon demonstrated its value in the floods of Winter 2011 when it remained floating and clear of the high water mark throughout β you can see the photos below.

Floating pontoon provides wheelchair access at Broxbourne Water Park
The Pontoon and Dock Company has just completed the installation of a boat launch ramp for the Broxbourne White Water Canoe Course that is near to completion in the Lee Valley Country Park.

The brief was to provide access to both able and disabled at all water levels. To achieve this Pontoon and Dock designed a submerged ramp that allows wheelchair users to safely enter the water.

From there they can either be manually lifted into their canoe, or use the Hereford Hoist that is attached to the side of the pontoon.

The rigid surface and stability of the Rotodock pontoon system provided by Dock Marine Systems ensures that participants on the course feel secure at all times.
The addition of an plastic edging strip (made from UK recycled plastic) ensures that there is no risk of anyone rolling off.

The White Water Canoe Course will be tested over the next few months to ensure that it is all ready to go for 2012.
