Floating Dock and Floating Work Platform Installation Archive
Floating pontoon installed at Chester Royal Rowing Club

We are delighted to announce that we recently installed a floating pontoon at Chester Royal Rowing Club.

The installation was a little tricky because the floating pontoons needed to carry all the weight of four gangways and the club wanted the sections ballasted down. But, as the pictures show, we were very successful and the floating pontoons look great!

Floating pontoon installation copes with river level fluctuations

We have recently installed a floating pontoon on the Great Ouse. The client, Roy L White, explained why the pontoon will be so useful:
"The location of the mooring on the river Great Ouse is subject to fluctuations in river level of up to 2 metres during the winter floods. The floating pontoon installation, with the special fixed and telescopic arms, allows free movement in the vertical direction whilst holding the boat firmly against the strong winds blowing across the open water meadow. The construction of the modular dock provides a robust platform while being straightforward to transport and assemble."

Eton Excelsior Rowing Club invest in a floating pontoon

Eton Excelsior Rowing Club on the River Thames at Windsor has just installed a floating pontoon. We’re delighted to have supplied the club, which is visited by many rowers from all over the country.

Floating pontoon proves its versatility in a challenging installation

These pictures show the recently installed floating pontoon at the Christian Mountain Centre in Pensarn, which is on the west Wales coast. This was a particularly interesting installation because, at low tide, the pontoons have to rest on the ground at different levels and access to the low-tide central stream was required.

CMC Pensarn staff carried out the installation themselves – demonstrating that the dock requires no specialist expertise to construct. They found the activity a useful team-building exercise.

Floating pontoon in the Norfolk Broads

The town of Beccles in the Norfolk Broads is renowned for its pleasant waterlands and quaint buildings. Now a modern way of creating pontoons and marinas has enhanced a small disused harbour.

The floating pontoon maximises the boat mooring capacity of the harbour and created an attractive off-river facility. Although on an inland waterway, this area is tidal and is subject to the occasional flood so the floating pontoons have been installed in such a way that they can float up above the harbour wall but still be held in place.
Emergency exit!

The company was asked to supply an emergency exit for a newly converted river mill in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. The mill is prone to flooding when the River Severn bursts its banks, so the emergency exit was needed to allow residents to get out at such times.

The exit had to be designed and built so it could be taken to pieces for storage but at the same time be assembled with ease. The floating pontoon was the ideal solution.

The company worked with a local engineering company to produce the gangway that supports the pontoon and is very pleased both with the design and the quality of workmanship.
The installers have a contract to be on-call to assemble the unit in times of flood. Luckily, the Severn is a controlled river, so floods can be predicted and the floating pontoon assembled in advance.
The pictures show the dock partially assembled. There are more sections that can be added in a T-shape so residents can leave the building when the river comes up above a certain level.
A floating pontoon for Wimbleball Lake

The Fishing and Water Sports Centre on Wimbleball Lake, Exmoor, Devon, recently installed a floating pontoon to cater for the needs of their rowing club members. Measuring some 24 metres long by 2 metres wide and fitted with an aluminium gangway, the floating pontoon is designed to help cope with the considerable changes in water level which can be experienced on this lake.
The pontoon as also been adapted so that the level at which it floats can be adjusted to suit the requirements of rowing boats with their wide rowlocks.
The very flat walking surface and its great stability provide for an ideal pontoon for rowing clubs.
Royal Victoria Dock’s new pontoon one of the UK’s largest!

One of the largest modular pontoons ever installed in the UK was recently launched in the Royal Victoria Dock, London. To be located right outside the Excel exhibition halls, the home of the London Boat Show, this floating pontoon, measuring 15 x 16metres, will be used by the Royal Victoria Water Sports Centre as a base for their activities.

Storage space is becoming a premium for the Centre as property development encroaches on the base – so the obvious answer was to use the water. This has the added advantage that the Centre will be able to store its boats and equipment on-water and away from the prying eyes and hands of the less honest elements of society.
The Centre will ferry students to and from the pontoon in their new S R Workboat which has been designed to carry 12 passengers and to be helmed by someone in a wheelchair.
In choosing the floating pontoon the Centre found its non-slip flat and stable surface of great significance since the Centre caters for both able bodied water sports enthusiasts as well as those using wheelchairs.
